Using GS Custom FN monometal bullets in doubles
      #14949 - 19/05/04 01:47 AM

Conventional wisdom is not to use monometal bullets such as Barnes-X in a double rifle.

I noted on the GS Custom website they mention their bullets can be used in doubles.

In reply to:

All FN bullets employ our HV technology on the shank. This means that the bullet is bore diameter in the shank area with the thin series of bands at barrel groove diameter. The only stress imposed on the rifling by these bullets, is to cut the band and push it into the space behind it. The photos show clearly how this happens. This also gives superior gas sealing. All our bullets are moly-coated for further protection of the bore. When GS Custom FN bullets are loaded to normal speeds, recoil is reduced. When loaded to normal pressure levels, higher speeds than normal can be achieved. GS Custom FN bullets can in no way damage the barrels of a double rifle. The advantages are obvious.

Has anyone here used them and in what sort of double? Does anyone anticpate any problems, assuming of course the double can be loaded with loads that regulate with them?

I have. They regulate perfectly in my 500 ne and hit dead on. No pressure signs at all as the GS bullets engrave very easily (owing to the driving band design).

I can email you a scan of a target if you like. Let me know.

Just to inform you guys - not to bash GS Customs or Gerard Schultz....

There have been a lot of reports regarding GS Customs not able to deliver to customers but billing the credit card immediately after the order has been placed.

Some people on the AR Forum are waiting on delivery since a year or longer without beeing able to get feedback from GS Customs, they stopped replying to enquires of that customers something like months ago.

Be carefull, try to pick it up in RSA personally or get someone to do it for you ....

Not trying to defend GS Custom for the previous complaints, but it does appear they have made good most of the outstanding orders. Also it appears they have changed their business practice where they now bill the credit card when they are ready to ship rather than when the order is received. If they do a production run on some bullets very rarely this makes a lot more sense to me.

Nitrox

Good news - I did order 9,3s in HV and FNs 2 years ago and didn't have problems with them at that time, complains started a few month later.

Got the info from a german web-page that they had a lighning strke to their plant killing all CNC machines in one second.... bad luck, but didn't tell the customers what happened and went on taking orders and money...

Hope they'll recover - the HVs and FNs are wonderfull bullets, but in the meantime Barnes XXXs are gaining market.

Just wanted to make sure none is loosing money here.
