Woodleigh 500 NE softpoint penetration on buffalo
      #149121 - 31/12/09 02:40 AM

Hi, do any of you 500 NE double shooters have experience with the 570g Woodleigh softpoints on buffalo? I know they expand and hold together well, but how is penetration particularly when bone is encountered?

Regards,

Chuck

I shot a buff square in the face at about 10 yards with a .500 NE double using 500 grain Woodleigh softs. The bullet held together well, although as I recall it lost a third of its weight. The bullet went through the skull, smashed 2 vertebrae and lodged in a third. Total penetration was between 12 and 16 inches I would say.

Thanks 500 Grains, I'm trying to decide between shooting 600g Woodleigh PPs at 2150 fps or 570g TSX's at 2300 fps out of my 500 Jeffery for cape buffalo. I've probably won't be going until a year from this summer. I have an accurate load worked up with the 570g TSX but want something that will definitely expand, penetrate, but not kill two other buffalo after it goes through the first one ...

Appreciate your advice and help,

Thanks,

Chuck
