Kepplinger Trigger, Ruger #1
      #148906 - 26/12/09 08:32 AM

Hello Folks,

I'm using a #1V in 223 Remington as my primary groundhog gun. It does a very nice job, but I'm sick of the trigger. Have any of you ever tried the Kepplinger Trigger, in any model of rifle? Are they worth the considerable expense? Did you install it yourself?

Tatume, I met a Swiss guy in Africa a couple of years ago and he had a number 1 with a Kepplinger trigger which I dry fired a couple of times, I thought it was superb but can't help you on the installation though I seem to recall reading somewhere that it is not a big job, seasons greetings, Mike

After exhaustive searching, I've found just about no information on the installation of the Kepplinger trigger. I intend to order one and install it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

The good news is the Kepplinger trigger is very easy to install and it is much better than the Ruger trigger. However it is very slow. I do not like the over center kick off as I think that is why it is not as good as a proper double set trigger.
I have a friend who is working on a self setting trigger that is very good and have had a prototype for about 4 years and it is great but have no idea if or when he will get it in production.
Cheers,
Laurie

Tom,

No dramas to fit one of these at all. When you get the rifle all pulled down, it will all be quite obvious what is needed.

As for being slow, I have not found them any slower than any of "the push forward to set" triggers. The only thing I have ever done to "improve" them is when fitting one, I checker the BACK of the trigger itself to allow a good non-slip surface to push against when setting it.

They may not be as good as a double set system, but they do work very well. If anyone was not happy refining a Ruger No.1 trigger pull with the original components, and likes "set" triggers, the Kepplinger is a very useful alternative.

Have a great New Year

Best

Alex

Hello Folks,

Yesterday I took this gun to the range and shot all of my ammo left over from last year, about 50 rounds. To my surprise, the trigger was not as bad as I remembered! It was really pretty good. There is no discernable creep or overtravel. Today I measured it with an RCBS trigger pull gauge, and it is a very consistant 4.0 pounds. I'm going to leave it alone. I may still put a Kepplinger trigger in one of my other #1 rifles though.

I put a stainless Moyer trigger in my #1 450/400 and love it. They are available from Brownells. My gunsmith has had extremely good luck with quite a few of these. Adjusted to a very crisp 3#, it feels perfect to me.

I am sure that there was an article in Precision Shooting about the Kepplinger trigger on the Ruger #1 but I haven't been able to dig it out. Maybe worth contacting them for that back issue if anyone is interested - I'm sure they'll know which one it was.
