Unless the spokeperson has "girly" hands, I'd say it is a 4 or a thin wall 8 at the very least.

It is indeed a 4 bore, the rifle belongs to the collection in the Royal armouries Museum in Leeds, West Yorks, England. The bearded Gent holding it is one of the curators of the museum.

Anyone ever on a visit to the UK would be well advised to pay a visit to the museum, the collection is vast and amounts to many thousands of weapons both edged and firearms from the earliest wheel locks through to the most upto date military weapons from all over the world.

Also housed within the bowels of the museum is the former "Pattern Room collection" formerly the property of the Ministry of Defence, now called the National firearms collection. This collection contains samples of virtually all military weapons ever made both handgun and long arms. Entry to the museum is free, definitely worth a look.

Andreas

The main Armouries museum is free to enter but sadly the NFC (pattern room collection) has limited access to military, police and historians only and by pre arranged visit. Security is very tight given the vast and open nature of the collection. The rifles are lined up in racks and amount to thousands of weapons in total.

If you do a google search for Royal Armouries museum Leeds you should score a hit on the museum which is part of a number across the UK, once upon a time many of the exhibits were kept in the Tower of London, there is even 14 - 15th Century armoour from across Europe on show.

Regards

Jonathan

Is the Leeds collection bigger than that of the Tøjhusmuseet in Copenhagen?

What are the Rosary, the Cross or the Crucifix other than tools to help maintain the fortress of our faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I cannot give you an answer as I have no knowledge of the museum you speak of.

The museum building in Leeds England cost £42 million to build in the early 1990's to house all the exhibits brought up from the Tower of London many of which had not been on public display due to lack of space there.

The Leeds museum is purpose built over several floors comprising hunting, war and medieval galleries.

Living displays of sword fighting in armour, jousting on horseback and falconry take place. Addittionally there is a craft court where you can see reproduction armour being made along with gunmaking.

holland and holland house a small display in the museum with the display of how a best shotgun is made, a finished gun is displayed along with many components used in the manufacture.

If you go to www.royalarmouries.org/visit-us/leeds you will find a virtual tour link via youtube, although brief you can at least see how the museum is set out.

What you don't see on a visit are the reserve collections amounting to thousands of weapons from military to Rigby hunting rifles, these are kept behind the scenes for visits by interest groups, gun clubs, law enforcement etc and can be arranged in advance, usually only small groups are admitted to the reserve collection, again due to strict security, proof of i.d must be brought along to the visit.

The separate National fireams collection is more restricted due to the sheer amount of weapons, many of which are fully automatic, usually to visit this collection you would need to be either a research fellow, part of the police or military and again only be pre-arranged vcisit which are always escorted.

That said however, if you do visit the UK a trip to the museum if you are up in the north of the country is well worthwhile and free!

Merry Christmas

jonathan
