Rigby's Return---article in Rifle Magazine
      #147946 - 14/12/09 03:34 PM

FYI

Pretty good article in the new "RIFLE" magazine--Jan. 2010 edition on Rigby by Terry Wieland--gives a bit of history on the company and on the start up operaton again in London--IMHO, well worth the read...

As suggested earlier in another post on this site--it appears Mr. Wieland is no fan of the U.S. version of Rigby...the article does give good press to the new European Rigby..IMHO, as they should..

Is ANYONE ?

Seriously, is anyone in the US (or the World for that matter) a fan of Mexican Rigby's or the Company ?

Can someone from the US answer that ?

It's all been thrashed out on AR, but if they didn't register the damn name and trademark worldwide, especially in the UK, what do they expect.

Empire 375,

Steve is working on a detailed article on the two Rigbys which will be posted in detail on his blog. I'll check with him and find out when it would be up. He did tell me some time ago about this and about the correspondence that he has had with both the companies in question.

Think you will find more of the uninformed who may not know the difference..have lots of $$ and just write the check...

For those who spend time on this sight and see what is really being offered..I would think it would really pisss someone off..because based on the Mexican Rigby..if you want a Merkel go buy one..and you don't have to spend $30,000 to do it..IMHO...

That is funny! In Mr. Wieland's book "Dangerous Game Rifles" he give glowing reviews of the california Rigby, and the Merkel doubles but didn't even mention the B. Searcy in that book.

I think in most cases like his hard back book, the editors sometimes cut a lot out to make the book fit a certain length in page count. Editors not being aware of how IMPORTANT double rifles are, may have cut some double text to make room for some bolt acction. Mr. Wieland may have indeed mentioned the Searcy, because it is a better rifle than the Cal Rigby, especially the leter ones, and had it cut. I haven't read his article in RIFLE yet, but I will, so on that subject I can't say more.

Serious trouble can take serious action -- I agree that there's been quite a bit of trouble and blight around the name these past few years...

...but sometimes it takes a mess to clear a mess.

After all, don't elephant bathe in the mud?

I met a young fellow (not quite 30 years old I'd say) in the Rigby booth at SCI last year. When I asked him what he did at Rigby (while I was fondling one of their doubles) he informed me that he built those (pointing at the double) rifles. I asked him what aspect he was involved in. He told me can do everything to build that rifle".

I walked away at that point and went to talk to the nice guy at the Holland booth.

Re the Mess.

Rigby in the UK will come out on top because they are a UK company and not imposters.

What do you mean?? you didn't believe him???

Have visited with the mexican rigby group as well--if I was in a war with them and sharing a foxhole, don't think I would be the first one out running towards the enemy..

Hope the UK group returns the Rigby name to where it rightfully belongs...

As Tinker stated, sometimes it takes a mess to clear up a mess...perfect example, look at Obama..
