Long time Lurker curious about Hawes Matador II double rifles. I have never heard of them. I have made an offer on a 500 Nitro and want to research before the purchase goes through..

A conversion of a Shotgun to a double rifle by sleeving barrels into them or something like that.
Personally, for that money, I'd go to Cabella's and buy a Sabatti in 500NE for US$5000 - at least it was made by a gunmaker and proofed.

yes, they get a bit heavy if they are not balanced.
I have a 13lb 500 Nitro, carried it 20kms one day, thank god you can put it over your shoulder and grab the barrels is all I can say LOL.

I'll bet that there are Spanish Proofmarks on it if you look. Hawes used to import alot of 'pistolas' from Spain and I'd guess it's along those lines.

The Gun store told me it was a converted 10 guage... Ill pass for now... thanks for all the input!
