H-777 in BPE cartridges.

Any concern with using H-777 in a .577 BPE?

I want to try it.

As I recall, Sherman Bell counseled against it. Said he got erratic results and that it is far more corrosive than black.

Other than that, I dunno.

I don't know about doubles but I've used 777 in a 45-70 single shot. It seemed to work well, it burns cleaner than BP and doesn't foul like BP. Accuracy seemed good too. As Curl says it does seem to be more corrosive; all you need to do is not let your brass or barrel sit too long before cleaning. It cleans up real easy with a little hot water; a few patches dunked in hot water got my bore completely clean. For brass, I would dump them in a bucket of hot water to dissolve the residue. Rinse them real well, let them dry and tumble them. I did leave some in the hot soak too long (a day or two I think and they were pretty corroded).

I have used 777 in some BP cartridges. In my .50, I had high pressure signs with very moderate compression. Be very careful with the seating of the bullet. I used an card wad under the lead bullet.
Daryl has warned of immediate pitting and frosting of the bore of new barrels by one shooting session with Pyrodex. Not sure about the 777.. I do note that the velocities with 777 are higher than most BP substitutes.

Forget it then. I'll stick with NFB.

Good choice, Bonanza.

I have heard of pressure excursions with heavy loads of T-7 in large bores, but others say they use up to 175gr. ina Pedersoli 12 bore - I certainly wouldn't. Hodgdon says to reduce BP loads by 15% to 20% IIRC. Since it is probably a percholate powder, it's fouling by itself will be corrosive - just like Pyrodex - sounds like it with brass.

I tried T-7 in my 14 bore rifle and it was erratic in accuracy.
