Using the Zeiss 10x all day without the tripod gives me quite a headache. I have had both for more than 10 years and never had a problem with either pair.

Never had a problem? What about the headache?

Touche'. But 10x, and the overall weight of the binocular, with hours of glassing, focusing thru brush and trees, you begin to notice every heartbeat, shimmer and shake and that produces the headache. No problem when they are mounted on a small Slik brushed aluminum tripod with plastic clip adjustments. I have put the 10x's right on top of 15x Swarovski's at low light to compare the two. The 10x's win hands down no doubt due to the larger exit pupil of the 10's.

Gatsby as I am living in deer country and have access to quite an amount of private property holdings I do a hell of a lot of bino use for around 10 months of the year using mostly the Swaro 10 x 42 and most of the time they are hand held ,sometimes i rest them over my tripod mounted camera top but one thing i have no complaints with is ever getting eye strain or a headache from them,I do believe that this separates the wheat from the chaff in the comparo`s of exy and the cheaper lines. The Swaro`s are heavy though but that wont ever stop me carrying them.
Some of the cheaper jobs soon have your eyes hurting after extended spotting.

I've used a pair of 10x40 Optolyth Alpin binos for years. Good optics, rubber armoured and very light to carry. West German made (back before the wall came down)and were not too expensive. Not top of the range but a good easy carry bino that has served me well up in our Alps hunting Chamois and Tahr. Not sure if they are still made anymore?

I use a set of Swarovski EL 8.5x42's. Never had to test the warranty.

I purchased them for their lower light ability. While not compact, they are worth carrying when hunting.

G'Day Fella's,

My two main hunting bino's are a pair of Zeiss 8 x 20-B and Leica 10 x 42.
I generally use the Zeiss when bush stalking, as the lanyard hangs around my neck and they sit nicely in the top pocket of my shirt!
The Leica's get used for every thing else!
As reported by others here, I've never had to test the warranty back-up, on either unit!

I have a Swarovski 6x42 that came off a East German officer in Angola. If was very generous of him to donate it to my hunting cause.

I'm with the light brigade, so I use my tiny Leica 10x25 BCA. I bought them about 25 years ago, no probs so far, super bright, super light. No longer available, but I'm sure Leica still make something similar.

Oh and they're waterproof and rubber coated, and a funny green colour.

Swarovski.

Leica and Zeiss are very high quality too, but I reckon that Swarovski's after-sale service (manufacturer's, in Europe - may not apply to the US) is at the top of the tip of the highest.

Have had 8x30SLC for some 20 years. 3 years ago, I sent them for service while in Europe, through a Swarovski dealer who was not even the one where I had bought the binos originally. 17 years in Africa, they were showing some wear and tear, for sure!

I received them back after a couple of months, from Austria. Brand new. I mean, brand spanking new. I'm sure that they just put the old serial number on a new body, can't see how else. The bill was listing all the things they had changed/serviced, an the total invoice was 0. Zero. They did not even charge for the shipping.

I had Zeiss binoculars serviced in Europe, they did not even bother to change the worn out plastic cap with the Zeiss logo on...

I have binos and optics by Zeiss, Swaro, and S&B, but any new one I pick is a Swarovski.
