I was talking about the rifle Jabali highlighted; the rifle that started this thread I would prefer not to see again, best, Mike

I assumed (wrongly) that he was referring to the engraved makers name. Having looked at the picture again, I'm guessing he was actually referring to the oval on the underside of the buttstock... If so, I don't know the answer, just that they made some 'Best' quality boxlocks, so perhaps the answer is yes? I don't know.

If this gun was a "best" gun, then why isn't the lump that can be seen on the underside of the action fully engraved ?

I think the lump shows the style of the gun when it was made.

I have quite a few of them and my Rigby lump is engraved
similar to the rest of the gun but the others doon't all have
engraving as the action doesn't.

Anyone like to comment ?

Correction of my first answer to the post quoted above!

The bold print above was a mistake on my part, and what I was refering to is the link below at Champlin's not Cabelas! Sorry about that, not that anyone saw it anyway, a correction none the less!

Good question, and the monogram plate? Did they all have them?

What are you referring to as the Monogram plate ?

I can't seem to see what you are talking about ?

(Must be blind LOL)

The little silver plate between the butt and the sling, often seen on shotguns but im not seeing them so often on RD.

No, I don't think so. Work marks and finish looks as old as the gun. Also, there's a colonial mark on the left panel. This one is original.

Yes. I'm so used to seeing them that I admit I don't pay much attention to them. Can't recall seeing a British DR without a silver/gold oval though.
