Here Mac, drool some more!

I remember giving this gun serious consideration over the counter at Keith's shop in Footscray some 5 or 6 years ago, but couldn't spare the ready. It had been refurbished in the UK only a couple of years before that, recased, etc, and looked a million dollars. Pretty heavy for a .450 though, if I remember rightly.

This rifle belonged to a friend of mine. It was "refurbished" as a "Centenary Model" by Century Arms, Balwyn, Victoria, Australia.

Marrakai, that is a beautiful rifle for sure, and I would love to own it, heavy or not! The engraveing is beautiful, but is not typical of WR doubles, and I would say it was done after manufacture, or recut deaper than usual. All my WR doubles, both shotguns, and rifles have the very fine, almost "BOLINO FINE" rose & scroll engraveing. Who ever did the restoration did a fine job, especially, if it shoots as well as it looks!

I certainly wish I could afford to buy every WR double I find, but alass I must yeald to the need for food & shelter!

DUGABOY

The engraving pattern is per "THE CENTENARY" model; so named because it was brought out in 1912, the centenary year of the Westley Richards company.

Marraki, do you remember how heavy it was? Just out of interest.

Marrakai

Keith obvoiusly didn't think “Refurbished to new in Balwyn” would have the same cachet! But then, he always said "read the sign on the wall - NEVER TRUST A GUNDEALER"

But as you would know, the blokes who worked on this gun would take a backseat to NOBODY.

The Engraver, Phil Vinnicombe has taken commissions from Purdey (did a .600 Nitro a while back – check out the lettering – near perfect!), and the Stocker, Ross Waghorn is absolutely WORLD CLASS!

In fact, Ross has had overtures made to him to go and work in the UK, based on Holland & Holland’s assessment of his abilities. Fortunately, for us, he prefers to live in OZ.
