Entry Price Point for 470 NE Double Rifle

Have taken an interest in this site for some time. Great information and a wealth of experience. I'm sure that the cost of double rifles is discussed fairly frequently here. I'm also sure that the market changes making prices six or twelve months ago irrelevant. Whether this is absolutly the case, I am hoping that you may familiarize me with the current pricing range for a used, base grade hammerless 470 NE of decent repute. Sort of looking for a basic shoot everytime and hit what your aiming at 50-100 meter rifle; ejectors, fancy wood, engraving not really required. Any info is more than what I know. Thanks.

Not owning a double rifle myself......yet, I'll state a range of $7 - 10K for a base model used double in very good condition.

The problem lies in the description of "base model" as it comes in all flavors from the Merkel/Krieghoff range up to the Holland & Holland/Westley Richards range. They all have "base models".

You should be able to get one for the former models I mentioned within that price range. I'm headed to the Vintage Cup in Maryland early tomorrow morning and can take a look for you and follow up when I return.

New Searcy "Field Grade" doubles are advertised at ~US$10k
Another US$600 for ejectors.

The base model Merkel can be had for under $10k. I recommend it for entry. I own one in .500NE.

merkel,zoli,searcy,you need to feel them all be patient Dallas safari club has a great convention in January in your back yard see them all Holland and Holland,zoli,shop to your hearts content or a few days after that safari club in Reno or the shot show in Vegas but compare and get what feels good their are many good makers out there,and don't rule out used julia auction is right around the corner like a car shop around and get what you want not what someone else likes

If you look for a while you may be able to find a second hand Merkel in .470 for around $7000.

$9000 is the cheapest I've ever seen.

There was a used Merkel 470 for ~$6,700 a few months ago on one of the online shops (can't remember if is was gunbroker, gunsinternational or gunsamerica). It looked to be in good condition. I had never seen one that cheap before, my only thought was "Where were you a year ago?"

I got a used 470 (extractor model) last spring for $7000. It belonged to a friend so I knew it was in great condition and it shot well. The 470 for $6700 I think was at first stop gun and listed on Guns America. I hear they are a reputable company to do business with, as a matter of fact, my friend bought the rifle I have from First stop guns. There are some new extractor models on GA for around $8500. Keep your eyes peeled and eventually one will turn up! Im keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a merkel 500 myself! Good luck!

That rings a bell, First Stop is a good shop to deal with; pretty nice shop with a good inventory, it's a "must stop" kind of place if you are passing through Rapid City. I have bought a few guns there and know the owner.

Two years ago I bought a brand new Merkel double in .470 from Scheels Sporting Goods in Des Moines,Iowa for $6900..new in the box.

Didn't like it and sold it 3 months later for considerably more than that...but the fact is, as stated, keep shopping, you will find a good deal especially in this economy....

Believe someone have one for sale on this very site recently for a lot less than that..

Miked1, I will be selling my double .470 Dumoulin at Holts next March. It is a decent gun, not fancy based on a Browning B25 action, shoots fine out to 90 yards. It will be sold with 60 rounds of ammo plus some brass. I am putting a low reserve on it. I hope someone on this forum buys it, it has taken Hippo, Ozzie Buff and the day before yesterday my first Cape Buff

pics in a few days. I am putting a reserve on it at 4500 euros, best Mike p.s. double triggers and ejectors
