Thought I would post some pictures of my George Gibbs square bridge magnum Mauser in .280 Ross.
Really, I don't know why they would use a magnum action for a .280 - but there you have it.
This was an original gun with really nice metal but a cracked stock, so my brother had it restocked. If I recall correctly, it was done by Jerry Fisher.

Very nice gun. I like the re stock, looks to have kept the lines well.

A Magnum Mauser for a 280 Ross - that's interesting.

I thought they only used them for the 416 Rigby and the 505 Gibbs.

i had a mag mauser single square 333.jeffery and thought it was too much action for the caliber ,there is a 280 on griffin howes sight right now, i think by jeffery...paul

The restock was done to replicate a Type A Mauser with measurements taken from my 10.75X68 Type A.
Interestingly, this rifle feels as good as any up on the shoulder - totally balanced and correct.

I once had a .280 Halger which was also built on a SB magnum action. I think they all were simply because the pressure of the .280 Halger was too high for the standard action.

BTW, does anybody here have .280 Ross brass and dies for sale?

The length? I'm guessing you maybe have no Ross cartridges? They are quite long and fat at the rear so perhaps a Magnum size action fed better from the magazine? I had a Ross 1905 in 280 and it is a cartridge that can still hold its own with anything around today. Except the "odd" .288" bullets and the cost of the cases!
