moose hunting in finland
      #141317 - 29/08/09 07:00 AM

hi all

the invitation for this years moose hunt just came in the door.
My very good friends in finland has been kind enough to include me on their guest list again this year.
So the days in finland will include a day of partrigde shooting( ) and 2 days of driven moose hunting with dog, now it is going to be early in the season and i suspect it will be warm, but i dont know.
Also shooting angles on the moose ? anyone got any pictures or drawings of the moose's soft points ?

i realized last week, that i did not have a decent moose gun, and i had to think fast, all my work time is put into our C-B class double rifles at the moment so no chance there (i think it would not be entirely fair to bring clients halffinished guns to my private hunting adventures) so i had to look long and hard at the parts i had in store, and i am fitting a barrel set (450/400 3") to an old german action i had at hand, so we will see, if i can make it in time.

so moose advice please....

best

peter

Bramble

I think this guy has the right idea.

Note the bold hunter orange color of the moose!

Peter-

I hope those images get you in the clear with 'moose vitals'

On the old German shotgun action-to-rifle conversion, there's a guy in Paso Robles who can set you up with one of those in a jiffy.
Should I get you the contact information?

Cheers

thank you tinker, but i allready had the pleasure with that gentleman.

the german action were out of need, i needed an action with a long enough bar, to accomendate the barrel lumps, the simson were the only one's that could do the job, now i only have a few days to complete the build, so it will be very rough to look at....
but hopefully it will shoot good enough for me to keep any and all moose away from Mr. brambel's peg he did do good last year though with a 404.

cheers

peter

Peter,

Tinkers picture says it all, and as you see, the vitals are placed no differently than any other similar animals.

As for calibers, nothing fancy is needed. The old 6.5x55 and up will do.
