4-bore Double

I thought these pictures from my friend Cap Pappas' web page would interest folks here. He's posted some of his loading data with 1400gn roundballs and 1743gn conicals, with more to follow. I can't wait to see more!

Bob,
Do you know the particulars on the 4 bore, weight, bore diameter?

Gatsby, .970" and 22lb, with 28" barrels. I believe Maynard Buehler owned it back in the 60s. It's a small world.

Do you know if it was proved as a 5? Check the positioning of the rear site on the 4. I have seen two other old 4's with the rear site set as far back as well. What do you suppose was the thinking behind that?

Gents:
My 4-bore is a .975" diameter for a bore size of 5-bore as are most 4s. I have only seen one double that is a true 4 bore and a few singles. too. In fact the 4-bore 4 may be up for sale next year (as well as a Rodda). Which ever comes up first I have first refusal and, if so, I will put my Hughes up for sale to upgrade a bit.

Is you Hughes rifled? If so what is the groove diameter?

The Ken Owen 4 bore has a 1.052" bore diameter and pushes a 2000 grain naval ordinance bullet to 1500 ft/sec with 116 grains of blue dot. Gun weighs 26 lbs and has 24" barrels

My Hughes is fully rifles, bores near mint--absolutely perfect. The groove size is about .975 (that is what my bullets are sized to).
