Double Rifle in 375/444
      #140204 - 08/08/09 06:50 AM

Just wondering if anyone on this site has ever talked about trying to build a sxs double chambered for the 375/444?The caliber is used in the contender frames from TC,although I do think its kind of pushing it in the older contender frames Just something I have been thinking about for a while.Built one a few years ago using a martini action, which works and shoots very well.I also am wondering if the huglu side by side would be strong enough to build a double rifle on?I guess I'm just looking for a push.Have built several rifles over the years, starting from the rifled blank, contouring barrel, threading shank and doing the final chambering and head spacing. But haven't tried to do a double yet.Alsredoak

This cartridge is more often mentioned as .375 JDJ.

I have seen one advertised for sale a few years ago built on a U/O shotgun frame. No other information.

Gunmakers in Italy regularly chamber double rifles for the 444 Marlin. Check out: http://www.redolfiarmi.com/

Good luck and if you do start a build, do remember to post pictures here.

Ken Waters chambered that round up some years ago, calling it the .375 Express, I think it was, not to be confused with the .375 on the .350 Rem case.

I have a bolt gun done in .375 on the .350 Rem. mag case as mentioned and it's a great bush gun. It shoots well, is easy to load and has nice performance on big critters up close. It also has less recoil than I had expected for the ballistics, perhaps related to the small powder charges. I suspect the .375 on the .444 would be very similar and a nice medium rimmed round.

Roger, a couple of years ago I checked this out and you can order an AYA shotgun and get a set of barrels in .44 Mag or .444 I think. The barrels are made and regulated bt Dumoulin in Belgium. I thought the cost was excessive though so didn't bother, best, Mike
