Has anyone have knowledge or experience with any problems with the Ruger 375 African- specifically problems with stocks splitting? Seems I heard a report about this when they first hit the market.

Didn't they change stock makers?

Wasn't there a recall on the guns or something? Seems like I saw such in a magazine ad.

This and my previous post and my almost universal experience with warts on all factory-new guns makes me dead certain that the Human Resources Departments of the gun manufacturers exclusively hire critical alcoholics who are undergoing cold turkey recovery and are assigned duties in the Quality Control Room only during acute episodes of the DT's.

After recovery and a decrease in pay of 20%, they are each handed a case of Jim Beam and a telephone and squatted down in the Customer Service Department...

Hazy memory ... but I believe that one may have split during a gun test and hence the rumours of splitting stocks. Reality is probably closer to they used 'factory tight inletting' when they should have made it 'big bore sloppy'. My impression was that the Hogue stock was affected as well.

Yes ... infront of the magazine from memory. The Alaskan with the Hogue stock relies on an aluminium pillar that's sectioned/dovetailed/cut to accept the lug.

I have a Ruger African and have put about 75 rounds through it. Stock has held up fine so far. It is not at all unpleasant to shoot and carries very well. Trigger is good. The trajectory of the softpoint round seems to be very close to the 180-grain .30-06. I had a stock split on a 527 CZ in 7.62X39. Hardly a hard recoiling round but the company gladly and promptly replaced it. Ruger would too. I think that with production rifles like the Ruger African you will always run the risk of stock failure... at least in the early shooting stages. For the asking price when you have a company with a solid reputation of good warranty service that is about all that can be asked. I've seen stock failures on some very pricey rifles.
