Bought the 1st piece of my future custom Mauser today.
      #139254 - 20/07/09 05:34 AM

Got this off of Ebay today. It will become the stock on my custom Mauser that I will begin as soon as I have all of the pieces.

Also anyone know how to contact these folks? http://www.golmatic.de/Waffen_EN/jagdwaffen_en/jagdwaffen_en.htm
Their email does not work. If I can't find a good email for them I guess I'll have to call them.

Great looking stick. I've always thought Claro to be on par with English/Turkish/Bastogne. That blank has insane figure and nice grain flow. What kind of project are you looking at doing?

Prechtl makes fantastic parts but I'm not sure how to get a hold of them directly. NECG is their U.S. point of contact so you may want to check with them.

I'm going to have a .404 .500 Jeffery made keeping the looks onlong the lines of the pre WWII British African rifles.

I'll call Prechtl directly. If you go through a middle man you add money to the price. Thanks.

When I last heard from Gottfried Prechtl (July 8) he was laid up following an accident and his secretary was on vacation, so little or nothing was getting done in the office. Try again later.

As a wood dude, I guarandangtee you that is Bastogne. That is even better for your 404.

For my Mauser customs, I usually add a 3-way Win Mod 70 safety, titanium firing pin with heavier spring for faster lock times, better bottom metal, and a Kepplinger set trigger which you might skip in that caliber. I might suggest John Vest for turning the stock. He uses a Hoenig and does magnificent work. He has great classic patterns by Earl Milliron which are classic but fancy at the same time. Nice start to your gun.

I love fiddle-back (if that's the word) where the grain appears three-dimensional or going in two different directions. Your blank has both, Peter.

Peter does John have a website? I can't google one up. I'd like to see some of his patterns.
