Sako Mannlicher?
      #138749 - 10/07/09 06:37 AM

Hello Folks,

What can you tell me about this gun? I'm a neophyte, a babe in the woods, when it comes to Mannlichers.

Tom:

I couldn't pull up the pix so I'm taking the fellow's word that it is a Stoeger import.

Is it an old AI action? Must be if it is a Stoeger.

If so, I sold tons of them in various calibers to .375 in the plain hunter grade and regular rifles in the Finnbear grade.

GREAT rifle.

BTW: To me, a "Mannlicher" is a true Mannlicher. These guns merely have a long fore stock, but THAT doesn't take a thing away from them.

So what...the old SAKO is a GREAT action, and one that doesn't get its just deserts. I have a .375 I'll not part with, and I wish I had a stable full of them.

Did I mention it is a great rifle??

SAKO should have stuck with the old action IMO, it was a classic, totally reliable. I really like them.

Not sure what they go for these days, but did I mention it is a GREAT rifle...???

I found this some months ago, unused from 1959 in .222Rem.
Do have other two with standard stock in similar conditions, other being .222 and other 7x33 both of being dangerously beautiful for the black grouse and capercaillie.

So, is $1200 a good price?
What type of magazine do these guns have (rotary)?
Does anybody know the overall length, and length of pull?

Tom, I still cannot pull up the pix, but I think it its a Forester model.

Not sure of price, but there are a couple on Gunbroker you could follow to see.

The Forester model is as mentioned, NOT a true Mannlicher, "Mannlicher" only referring to the full forestock. It is a fixed magazine "Mauser"-type action with a fixed Mauser ejector and a patented extractor that IMO is at least as good as the Mauser. It is not a controlled feed action. They are normally a bit heavy, but have good triggers and are excellent rifles.
