Wonder what the pricing will be?

I could use a .458 and almost bought one off Gunbroker, but then I spent my money on another .375 instead.

I agree 100% with RLI!!!

lets see the LH version, I reckon it will sell faster than the RH version! I'd like to see a LH standard 70 as well

G'Day Fella's,

Aren't the so called "New Winchesters" made on the same machinery but at a FN military factory, on the East Coast of the US (in Nth or Sth Carolina???).

They are made by FN in South Carolina--not sure if its the same machinery, but the new ones I have looked at, handled and shot seem to be of considerable higher quality than the last run out of Connecticut..

I assume the .458 will be the .458 Lott, as it can be interchanged with the .458 Win Mag? If they make it in LH, I'll be buying one too.

Actually, I believe the barrels and trigger assemblies are made at the FN plant in South Carolina. The actions and other parts are made by contract vendors and shipped in. The rifles are then assembled at the FN plant. From what I have read, they are very good, well-made rifles.

G'Day Fella's,

Tatume, I wonder if www.bulldogbarrels.com (then click on "Receivers" at the top of their home page), are the people supplying FN the Winchester receivers.
As you will see, Bulldog Barrels make a very familiar looking (Investment Cast?) receiver?

Ripp, I'm pleased to hear that the new Winchesters, are of a higher quality finish. But after all, has anyone ever seen anything that FN or Browning has ever made, that is less than excellent?

G'Day Bwananelson,

Is that the trigger on the Browning A-Bolt or maybe the new X-Bolt?

I've heard that the basic receiver forgings are made by the Pakistan Ordnance Factories. Will check and post in detail as I have more information.

I have 2 of the new M-70s, a stainless, synthetic .30-06 and a Featherweight in .300 WSM. The quality is incredible, but I wish they'd left the trigger alone. The old one is bomb-proof and simple. The new one feels great but is more complicated. If they are still sitting on the shelf, it has to do with the economy. Hunting rifles sales are way down right now. All the growth is in semi-auto handguns and ARs.

I asked the same question about calibers I posted here:

Well, Hommer, I love FNs, too, and the design (and Christian attitude I've found) from Browning - but many of the old FN single shot .22s used to have brittle half-moon ejectors.

Cheers

The trigger was developed specifically for the M70, and is unique.

The trigger change is fixing something that wasn't broken and takes the rifle one step back from perfection.

Does anybody have any particulars on the new trigger? I haven't seen one. Is it just another iteration of the Timney, Remington, etc.?

I find no fault in the last Safari Express rifles that came out of New Haven. I say that having owned three. They are of excellent quality and build. Why people say otherwise has been a true mystery to me.

Since the new winchester rifles are about $150 higher than a ruger, I bet the winchester safari rifles will run maybe 200 more than the ruger safari rifles.

One would think there would be two grades of stocks

1. ultra fancy walnut

2. regular walnut or even a synthetic to counter the ruger alaskan
