Do they still make em oldschool??

I know alot of German gunsmiths make some great looking rifles,but does anyone make a mauser sporter with the half octagon half round barrel and full length raised and matted rib? Love that look and havent seen any NEW offerings like it! Kevin.

Production or custom? For custom, try Martini & Hagn in British Columbia (http://www.martiniandhagngunmakers.com). I've seen them do that style of barrels on their single shots, they probably do it for bolt guns as well.

This subject was discussed on either accurate reloading or 24hourcampfire but I cant find the posts. I believe there was a suguestion that Lothar Walther were doing barrels like that but they were very expensive. From some of the beautiful work shown by some contemory gunsmiths then the ability is very much available providing the pocket is deep enough. Mention an octagon to round barrel with wedding band transition to a competent gunsmith and it will suguest the style of rifle (and the level of spending) you are looking at.They certainly say a lot about a mans apreciation of all that makes a spectacular rifle.

Martini and Hagn do it, and for a pretty fair price.

Martini and Hagn had some nice stuff, still havent seen the FULL MATTED rib, half round half octagon though. I guess a new one even with all these bells and whistles wouldnt have the flavor of a "classic"? I guess thats half the fun isnt it?

You can get them made right here in the US by Ernie Stalman of Badger Barrels. I'm sure there are more who can do it Stateside. Ernie is a member here and posts occasionally as well.
