Is there an agenda here? It's their backyard mate. TOs have a general unwillingness to get shafted by YET ANOTHER do-gooder bureaucrat or carpetbagger with a quick solution (to their own advantage). Given the history and potential for destruction of cultural sites no wonder they're bloody suspicious. Anyway read the proposal by the regional traditional knowledge centre for culling (and no I don't have the link!)
I agree private property should be private property but if it was a cattle station or sheep station the Gov't would just go in as required, so why the difference for some 'landowners'?
Also feral pests are usually not confined by boundary fences so one neighbours problem is anothers as well.
Back on topic it would be good if landowners of whatever persuasion got on board and allowed organised sporting shooters to hunt camels. No doubt making some money for themselves as well.

There's a number of options for the government;
Simple cull, which can be done much more cheaply if you're going to let them rot. You can get away with a small helicopter that only needs to carry the shooter & pilot.
Cull & Recover, which requires a helicopter that will lift any camel shot. This will typically be 3x as expensive as the simple cull.
Muster, which can go back to the simple cull size helicopter. This is done in small scale, generally for live export, but camels are regarded as "difficult" to muster. The only reason for this is that their psychology is different to cattle, so if you treat them like cattle they won't respond.
If mustered, they can either be slaughtered or exported or combination thereof.
Of course there is the obvious recreational hunting option, but are we really going to get enough numbers by that method? Possibly not, but it would certainly reduce the cost of the other options.

I'd walk a mile to smoke a camel.
