front sight on brno 602
      #13751 - 21/04/04 01:55 AM

I was looking over my Brno 602 in 375H&H with express sights that I picked up last month and the front sight has a spring loaded button in front of the blade sight. My guess is that it allows the replacement of blades for different loads as different bullet weights will have a different point of impact ie. shooting 235 gr and 350 gr bullets. Does anyone have an answer?

I was looking over my 602 yesterday and didnt notice this feature. Maybe it doesnt have it. One thought (I,m no expert) could be that a larger night sight could be fitted also. I know mine is too small and I want a bigger bead.

I have just checked mine and it does have the removable front sight as well. I would like to get one with a bigger bead so that I can see it in the field. Does anyone know where to get bigger replacement beads?

Brno/CZ have different height front blades available to allow sighting in with the preferred load, and to compensate for different sight pictures/holds of individual shooters.

Does this mean we can get alternative front sights from CZ/Brno? Do they only make them in different heights or do they make ones with bigger, more visible beads?

Different heights are available from CZ. I have not tried the new ones on my 602, but would assume that they would work on the models with the push-button detent. I am not aware of hi-viz beads from CZ in the US, but can't say about internationally.

Thanks Mbogo ,I,m going to chase these up. I,m having a custom gun built as well ,and would like the same push botton feature for the custom barrel, to allow for different loads.

Hi Adam:

I just saw your post. I've had a Brno 602 in .375 H&H for many years, and have played around with different handloads, as well as different factory ammo. So having a number of front sights to allow the rifle to shoot to POA with different loads is just common sense.

CZ's front sights on their 550s (like the .375) are identical to those on the 602 and fit the same - by way of depressing the spring-loaded detent in front of the sight. You can buy extra sights in different heights from CZ. I got about 8 of these sights from CZ-USA. Scopes are fine, but I like shooting with iron sights too. I've now got my 602 "regulated" perfectly for a number of handloads using bullets of various weights with these extra sights. Just be sure to keep good notes of which front sight goes with which of your handloads.

Adam, New England Custom Gun (NECG) has a Hi-Vis front sight that with slight modifications will fit the CZ push button. I feel this bead is just too big in dia for any barrel less than 24" but thats just my opinion.

Thanks ,I will have a look in the NECG site and have a look at the high visibilty front sight. I would like one bigger than the hard to see one on the Brno.

The Brno front sight used on the 600's and Zg 47s can be used on most double rifles and drillings with the slide in front sight. Some modification is required. They are useful when a higher or lower front sight is required as most rear sights do not have any elevation adjustment.

Just recieved my CZ550 in .458 Lott and am in the process of glassing the stock with a few added cross bolts embedded in epoxy. The factory CZ front sights are really junk. Too small and very cheaply made with a counter sunk white painted "bead"? The rifle is really nice, Lapped in the bolt(not the lugs) with a tad of 400 grit valve compound. Saw a post about replacing front sight with New England Custom and takes just a bit of fitting to drop in. It works great. Took a small bit off the bottom on a medium course stone and used black marker on the bright bottom, put the two sights together and scribed the base to match the CZ sight and used a round file to get close, shortened it up and final fit with a few more while testing fit. Works like a charm. Have the sourdough and will probably get the large dia bead and go with the one I can see the best. Also, ordered the NECG masterpeice large front sight hood. It fits with just a few file storkes to open the slot just a tad. Looks much better and gives as good or better protection for front sight. Hope to press the trigger later in the week and have some fun.
