Guys I just wanted to share pictures of a Nice rifle offered to me which i wasnt Interested myself (my own opinion) and i saw it was offered for a decent price,so i thought it would be nice to share pictures with fellow enthusiasts but if this is the way one gets treated this way here i would certainly not like to be part of this forum.
Harnihal:
I think the problem started with this statement:
Quote:
There were very few smaller calibre Doubles made in the days when doubles were used in bush more than they were used at the range
What I think Mehul meant was that your statement was simply not well-informed. In fact, you have it backwards. Also, perhaps you didn't intend it to sound quite the way it did (Mehul's wasn't the only post that followed yours in similar vein). In reading this string, I initially didn't quite understand where you were coming from either. I think maybe the problem here is communication failure rather than intent. You were given a number of well-intentioned and very well-informed responses here, and I think your perception is wrong.

If i was not well informed i could have been informed in a gentlemanly manner like others posters have tried doing , avoiding words like *Bullshit* * You can buy whatever the heck you want* etc.

Beautiful vintage double and, by the way, I believe the .318 doubles were regulated for the 250 gr bullet, not 240 grains as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. The only 'period' .318 loadings were 180 grains (not desirable) and 250 grains. A .318 with that 250 grain long bullet and great sectional density should be about the equivalent of a modern .338 Win Mag, only with about 10 times the sex appeal. It would certainly be adequate for anything in N. America and most things elsewhere. In addition to that, the cartridge itself is beautiful to behold - like a fine vase.
My mistake re the bullet weight - it was a typing error.
Well picked up and thanks for correcting me before it gets promulgated as internet gospel !!!!!

For what its worth, .375 is not the minimum calibre for dangerous game in the whole of Africa, much as Hornady, Ruger et al. would like you to think so....
