MONOLITHIC SOLIDS AND RIFLING DAMAGE
      #13725 - 20/04/04 11:03 AM

I OWN A WEATHERBY DANGEROUS GAME RIFLE IN .416 WEATHERBY MAGNUM. I WAS TOLD THAT MONOLITHIC SOLIDS COULD DAMAGE THE RIFLING OF THE GUN. I CALLED WEATHERBY DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT TRUE, AND THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. DOES ANYONE, WITH DIRECT KNOWLEDGE, KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

detcord, welcome to the forum.

what you are hearing is in referance to double rifles. the monolithic solids can cause the barrels to seperate. no worries in a single barreled rifle.

The only thing mono's do is to foul up your bore. As far as damage, I seriously doubt it. If I were you, I wouldn't give it a second thought. If all loads shoot to your complete satisfaction and you're willing to put up with the fouling, then just continue doing whatever you're doing.

As Mickey stated, it is in reference to use in double rifles. The rifling can't be damaged but the flexing will cause the rib to give way and you'll have two barrels hanging off the receiver.
