Hi: Can anyone tell me the approximate value of an Obendorff[sp?] 98 made in 1941. It has all matching numbers on the rifle stock etc.and the bayonet and cleaning kit also have numbers that match the rifle. From what i can see in the pictures the stock looks like it is not laminated. The stock looks darker like walnut[i could be wrong about this]I hope someone can help. Dan

I'm not good on values, but the calibre will help others put a value on it.
especially since you are OS !!!

Are those made during the war worth less than ones made during, say, the '30s because of the rush to re-equip?

Dan, Anticipating the inevitable deluge of questions you'll get, you might take digital photos and post them to a free hosting service like photobucket.com.
That said, two places on the web where military Mauser rifle experts can be found at http://www.mausercentral.com/forum/index.php and http://forums.gunboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5
Paul, Not necessarily, if the wartime Mausers are specially marked (Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe, etc)
