Insurance exclusion
      #136780 - 05/06/09 09:56 PM

Just found a clause in the SSAA QBE Insurance info that states that they do not cover lost or stolen items that have been taken from a suitcase whilst traveling as checked or unaccompanied baggage.
My question is, would a Rifle case be regarded as a Suitcase in this instance ?

It might state what QBE considers a suite case in the policy--but to get a definitive answer I would send a memo or email to them and get something in writing...

Sometimes when there is an exclusion, there is a give back of coverage somewhere else in the policy, you may want to check that as well. It seems a bit odd, based on who the association is that is offering the coverage, that this would be in there...again, I would suggest contacting the insurance carrier. I might be wrong but at first blush, I would say the answer to your question based on the info you have given so far is yes.

Insurance carriers have more ways to get out of a claim than to pay one..IMHO...some of it a by-product of our litigious society..but the fact remains, insurance carriers are not your friend at claims time…during premium paying time however, they love you..

correct me if I am wrong. If insurance have to pay for lost or destroyed luggage, insurance will pay a miserey per pound of luggage. Montreal and Warsaw conventions fixed the value at 2.15 euro per kg (1.50 $ per pound) what have your rifle reimbursed 18 $at best.....lest alone binoc, scope, range finder, cams......
As luggage weight is limited to 60 lbs, you can obtain 90 $ for all your lost kit

In the U.S. , if you would file a claim on your homeowners policy, you would recieve replacement cost on the luggage less your deductible.

As for the firearm, that is why I stated in another thread some time ago, I suggested to "schedule" the guns you take..they are then insured for a stated amount..and in the event of a loss, they are covered...you can choose a lower deductible than for the other coverage on your homeowners policy and the coverage, while not being 100% all risk, is as close to that as you will ever get...so....pretty close to fool proof...
