I wonder if this will someday become a double rifle and single shot chambering?

Jens,

The South Africans have some interesting new artridge designs that seem to do well in their part of the world. That is why I have been wondering about this new wildcat. I guess the world does not need any new cartridge designs at all if oyu consider that what has been available for a long time has been used to take every game animal on the planet. That said, the world had beauties like MArilyn Monroe and Ingrid Bergman but I still like to look at Keira Knightley and Megan Fox.

Good hunting, my friend!

the cartridge is very close to the .416 JDJ round wildcat here in the USA. This is the .444 marlin necked to the .416. A bit more capacity than the .303 case.
I am making a case with .375 bullet on the .303 case for my 2 1/4 " version of the .375 express in a martini henry. 250 - 300 grain bullets. The 250 should be pushing 2000 fps.
Nice hog and deer load.

What kind of pressures are they running to get 2300fps with a 350gr bullet out of a case that small? I think you would be better off with a .405win using .416 bullets sized to .411, the case is a bit longer and slightly larger in diameter (more volume).

First thing I thought of was a 405Win. shortened a bit or the 444Marlin necked in a bit.
Don't really see how this is innovative...

I don't think it is much meant to be innovative. Just practical, i.e. to get the max "big bore" from a nearly unmodified P-14.

As far as that goes it seems right.

I'm not sure, but I think the JDJ/.444 Marlin rounds require a bit of trickery to the P-14 action rails to get 100% feed reliability. Personally, I found enough trouble making .303 cal P-14's feed flawlessly that I think ANYTHING that keeps trouble to a minimum is an inherent good.

The P-14 was a cobble job originally meant for a rimless round, and should have been left as such IMO. I've owned 3 or 4 that were really herkyjerky and read of many more ditto. I do believe the sniper mod rifles were worked over pretty hard to ensure feeding of the .303 round. All my .30-07 M1917's fed flawlessly from the gitgo.

The P-14 is accurate as all-getout tho. Really fine shooters.

Anyway, that P-14 should hold 5 of those weirdo .416 rounds and if it was me I'd chop the barrel back to 18 inches and have the finest hound hunting rifle for our black bear ever made.

I like it, even with the longer tube!
