heavier bullets for 375
      #13509 - 15/04/04 01:18 AM

I've been looking at bullets to reload my 375 H&H and the commercial boys seem to stop at 300 gr. Can I get a 325 or even a 350gr? Will this put me into a compressed load? I know the 270-300 gr's have an outstanding reputation but I was hoping to increase sectional density.

Rhino Bullets have been making 380 gr bullets for the 375. I think they're the only ones that make one that heavy. I'm not sure but didn't Woodleigh make some heavy 375 bullets also?

The theory is nice but the H&H case is of limited capacity especially with the heavy bullets. Even with the standard 300 gr. bullets, I could never come up with the published amount of powder for certain loads when trying to find that one magic load with the best performance. I forget the amount of 4350 but I could never get much powder into the case without a crush fit and an overly compressed load.

I had the same problem and I had to resort to a LOOOONNNNNG drop tube to get some of my loads into the case.
Remember too that what you make up in BC with larger bullets, you give up in case capacity, thus velocity suffers.

I believe that Woodleigh has several 350's... in 375.

L2S, I tried the drop tubes and still couldn't get enough powder in the case no matter what brand of brass. I guess I just didn't have my mouth open just right. It's a good thing that there new powders out there that will give close to maximum performance without the deadnuts max loads of the older standby powders.

I used a drop tube about 4' long. That was for 300 grn serrias.

I'm pretty sure I have a box of 350gr Rhinos, and If I'm not mistaken they make 380gr.

Taipan also make a 350 grain .375 round-nose.
I haven't tried them yet, although a box is sitting on the shelf maybe waiting for this winter's sambar chasing.

ADI have a load for it, but it isn't in their manual. You have to call their tech people.

In reply to:

Dear Peter,

375 H&H Magnum loading info.

The ADI powders that we recommend for loading your 375 H&H Magnum with the
350 grain Taipan Jacketed Projectiles are AR2208 and AR2209. A starting
load for AR2208 would be a charge weight of 54.00 grains up to a maximum
load of 58.00 grains, and AR2209 a starting load of 71.00 grains up to
maximum load of 77.00 grains.

Best regards

I am having a hard time finding a powder for a suitable 350 gr. load for the Rhino bullet, I run out of powder space and have serious compaction, its really long...

I have had no trouble with the 350 gr. Woodleigh. The Woodleigh is a great Buffalo bullet btw...

When and if I re order the Rhino bullets I will order 270 or 300 gr. bullets..

Because of the limited capacity in the H&H brass, when I had the chance to convert an extra 375 to 375 Ultra, I did it. The RUM case gives you the leeway for a heavier bullet if you choose and gives the 300 grainers a bit more steam traveling at a true 2600 f/s +. You don't always have to run at full blast as you might wear yourself out and burn out the throat of your rifle. Just look at the Weatherby shooters, if they used nothing but full power ammo, their rifles would last about 2000 rounds or less before having to re-barrel.
