Man, oh man. I wonder if that Sable is the Angolan (or Giant) Sable. IMO, it appears to have that "Certain Curve of Horn".

That ele is simply unbelievable.

That Elephant isn't one of the one that was protected in later life by Soliders was it ?

Ahmed or something.

He got used to having a couple of soldiers around all the time.

I'd say it is a Royal (Giant) Sable.
Obviously, the horns are fantastic, but the face markings differ from the Hippotragus Niger (regular sable). I should go back and read on the differences too.

The sable is the nš1 Angolan Royal Sable took by Count Yebes in October 1949. The main difference towards de common Sable, besides horns lenght, is in the white stripes that start at the base of the horns but are much shorter in this species. This one was full mounted and is kept in the Museo de Madrid but it has already been displayed in the US. Here is how it looks like today:

64 7/8" horns!!
Man! I have a Sable with 36" horns (no, I didn't shoot it) and it looks big. Maybe it is by today's standards.
I can't imagine adding almost another 30" to the horns.
These Royal Sable are truly magnificent animals.
