      #132777 - 19/04/09 09:43 PM

Hi

Can I use slug/paradox when hunting in America?
Am thing about taking a drilling with me for hunting. First a trip for boar and then for Elk and black bear.

Dear Vegard_dino,

Hunting regulations in America vary by state and county. You will have to check on the specific location in which you wish to hunt.

That said, most (but not all) counties in my home state of Virginia do allow slug guns, which would include a paradox gun. However, many will not allow centerfire rifles. Therefore, even if no centerfire ammunition is carried, your drilling would be disallowed. You may only use the drilling in counties that allow centerfire rifles. (Yes, I know; it is a stupid law.)

Many counties allow centerfire rifles during specific seasons. During those seasons, you would be allowed to hunt with your drilling and slugs in the paradox barrels.

Which state do you wish to hunt? Perhaps our members in that state can provide specific local information.

This summer I will hunt wild boar in South Carolina. I have hunted them many times in the Florida Everglades, but this will be my first time in South Carolina. Where specifically do you plan to go in South Carolina?

Vegard, where in Montana are you headed?

Are you headed for a hound hunt for bear?

Remember, too, the Western states are large and commonly manage by "units" or some such group of areas inside the states and rules can vary somewhat. I do not know MT's rules, but here in Idaho, buckshot is restricted to 00 or larger for any big game, if that is of concern.

Hi Tatume

Thanks for the reply.

I have not yet made the bookings for South Carolina.....sorry to say.
Am looking into where to go now, just like to try boar hunting there. I did go there 4 years ago, but no hunting, just with some friends on a holiday trip.

And you? Where are you looking to go?

Hi 9.3*57

I am going for a back pack, horse pack trip, fly camp and that style.

So, that is what made me thinking of taking the drilling with me. As a one gun do it all. First, or after the boar hunting and then Elk and bear.

You can use your drilling here in Montana for big game (elk, deer, bear etc.) with no problem. Shotgun loads (for big game)are 0, 00, or single projectile. Rifle, no restrictions. Montana doesn't allow bear hunting over bait or with hounds, so they're pretty much spot and stalk.

Vegard,
I forgot to mention you can also go the Mt. Fish and Game website, fwp.mt.gov, to check on the different types of non-resident licenses and costs. For instance going with an outfitter or a general draw tag. There's a few different options and it may help in making your plans for the hunt.

Well, stay in touch. I'll be there the last week in June. Maybe we can meet?
