Easter Barra
      #132638 - 18/04/09 12:13 AM

The good wife and I had a splash of success last weekend at a couple of our favourite spots: Shady Camp on Good Friday and up the Finniss River on Easter Monday. The best barra on Friday were all taken on Gold Bombers. They were 80cm and 75cm for me, and a 75cm fish for the missus:

On the Monday, the top fish was a metre on a Reidy's electric-blue frog-pattern Taipan, next best at 82cm took a white Taipan with red head. There's a bit of a story to these two fish, might write it up for the web-page soon.

Wife's best fish was 85cm, taken in the gutter out the front but still fairly fresh at the time from the wet-season runoff. It inhaled a Classic Barra +3 in 'Guns and Roses' pattern:

Fishing the 'runoff' at this time of year is always the most productive for big barramundi. Wish every fishing trip could be as successful!

I've been a bit busy lately, will get back to regular posting on NE soon I hope!
Cheers all.

Nice fish and looks like a great spot to fish for barra. Like the idea of the pine floor in the boat, looks as if it can be taken out easily.

For an alternative method of catching them check out " Barramundi Fishing Tinaroo Style" on You Tube. Lucky there's no crocs in dams.

Good work Marrakai!
I am sorely missing the barra at the moment! Nothing but bloody carp and trout down in CBR.

Mike it will be hard to coax them out during July in the dry but you may do all right with some livies. I would suggest that the build up in the big billabongs and the run off are the best times for a fly caster to nail some good barra in the NT.

Marrakai will be able to advise you as to the state of the water closer to the time as I am stuck in Canberra for the next year and a half grrrrrrr....

Regards,

MOG
