500 asquare is pretty good but id stay away from asquare rifles since art is not a man of his word and customer service is not known at asquare neither is quality and can it be scoped of course theres 600 overkills out there scoped so why not a 500a2/510 wells

I thought it was superseded by the .495 A-Square. I think that's the one I'd pick. As far as I know, they are both based on the .460 Weatherby necked up. The 500 has a .450 Rigby type shoulder and the .495 doesn't. Both fire .51 600gr bullets, the .495 at about 2250fps and the .500 at about 2400fps. IIRC Wieland wrote favourably about them in his dangerous game rifles book, but preferred the .495. I don't know if the 500 is a slightly longer case whereas the .494 can fit any action suitable for the .458 Lott.

Ive never seen a 495 shoot a 600 grainer seeing in which it only hits 2300 with the 570 grain bullet it will fit into a lott action with alot of work so with that said I wouldnt go with either

A Square has had a lot of problems with the company over the years. I called Art with some questions on a rifle this past fall, and he was quite prompt in calling me back and answered a lot of questions for me. I think after several court battles, he is back in charge of the company. He did good by me and does have a wealth of knowledge to share.

The recoil in my 500 Jeffery in a CZ 550 Safari Classic isn't bad at all. Of course I'm not up to full power 500 Jeffery loads yet. I'm shooting 535g Woodleighs at around 2100 fps instead of full power loads(570g at 2300 fps). I had the CZ Custom shop put in two recoil reducers and a Pachmayr XLT recoil pad, so it weighs in at 11.25 lbs without ammo, scope or sling. So far it's fine with my Leupold 1.5 - 5x from the bench shooting 535g Woodleighs at 2100 fps or so.

Best of luck with your 50!

Chuck
