Caprivi:
I just posted a shooting session with my 12.7x44 x 16ga last week. Fung gun to shoot.
I use brass from Buffalo arms made for the caliber. It is very close to the 50/70, but the smaller in diameter. The brass i have was made from .348 win brass. I had a few cases sent to me from buffalo that were made from 8mm Label. These were too small in the base after measuring. I sent them back and they replaced them, plus 4 more. I also have some betrem brass, but haven't tried them yet.

A message about loading. I used 777 power in mine. Afte the last shooting session, I noticed I had a little trouble opening the gun on one shot. I examined the primers and found they were pushing into the firing pin hole. Scared me. I looked at previous loading and the primers were not deformed like this.
I took the rest of the loaded cases and pullet the bullets and found that I had over compressed, somehow, the power. In some cases it was a solid mass.
The warnings from Hogdens is to NOT compress. I believe I spiked pressure with the compression. I must have miss judged the powder and seating depth.
I am backing away from the 777 until I figure out what happened. I will likely switch to black or 4198 loads.

This is a great gun to shoot and handle. I have an HVA M 17B SXS hammer gun.

Great info. Did you get yours from Simpson's ???? They have a few plus some 16x20/577. Also a few in 9(???)x 57/360 with 12 and 16ga gun barrels. Very cool.

Forgot to say, yes, I followed your thread on the 12.7, very nice, very informative. I like the idea of one of these as a forest gun. Shot and a big slug are intriguging.

No, not from Simpsons. i bought mine a couple years ago. This is a Husqvarna underlever.
The 9.3x57 / 360 is a nice round as well. It is mild. About like a .38-55. The cases can be made from the british .360 or short ones from .30-30 from what i am told.

The 12.7 will shoot better than what I had on the targets. I was shooting just to see if the barrels came close togehter.
Thanks.

Here's mine - left 16 bore shot for paper or plastic, right is 13 bore ball w/brass case, straight rifled. 1 1/2" at 28 yards offhand for 1st 5 in a row, then tended to string an inch to the right. It was -10 and windy, too cold to shoot more. Haven't shot the left barrel yet , but picked up a mould to try RB in it as well .

Maybe I'll get lucky with the next one, a 16bore by 12.7x44R- it's what I want for a moose/grouse gun with a bot more range than the 13 bore ball without spin. I do need to try it farther out, now. Spring may come sometime and I've got a lot of ammo prepared for testing- bare ball as well as undersized, cloth patched - both in brass cases. Buffalo Arms is GREAT!!!

Daryl<
Very nice gun. I don't have a place at the moment to shoot at less than 50 meters. I intend to bring this to a boar hunt this weekend. It will be my second gun. I will use my Husky 9.3 M46 first. Then this.
Loved the moose story and read the posts about your shooting the 13 bore. Great stuff. Wonderful guns from another age.
