12 Bore reamer
      #130334 - 24/03/09 11:32 AM

Hello All,
I'm looking for a 12-bore reamer for a gunsmith to chamber 2 rifled barrels. We thought we'd sourced one but the smith said it looked a bit agricultural when it lobbed on his doorstep. Rather than get a brand spanker made, use it twice and then use it as a paper-weight I was wondering if we could borrow one or if someone had one in 'neo-mint' that they wanted to move on? I'm in Australia but freighting from overseas shouldn't be a problem. The gunsmith is top class and references are available if we could borrow one.
Cheers
Oz

Oz: Can't cut the chambers with a boring bar?

Pardon my ignorance, never done it, but some of the stuff we've done is similar....

Pacific Tool and Gauge are great to deal with but they will only rent reamers within the U.S. I live in Canada and have not been able to rent a reamer from the many American reamer renter companies, I have to buy each one. Many guys buy the reamer, do the job they need done and then sell the reamer for close to original cost online.
I have not had any success chamber reaming with a boring bar, but if you polished well it might work. Also for this straight case, a chucking reamer should work and they are far cheaper than purpose chamber reamers.

Yukon's idea of the chucking reamer is a good one. Then, polishing or boring in a slight taper to the rear would handle extraction problems brought up by a straight chamber. Good idea! - Cheap, too, in comparrison. The chucking reamer should be the minor dimension at the case neck.
