one set--3 coyotes--good day...
      #129751 - 17/03/09 01:21 AM

My friend and I set up on Saturday morning---did a few calls waited --did a few more waited--right at about 20 minutes--these three come running in--we let them cross a iced over pond and put the hammer on them--two fell immediately with the third heading out the draw--was shooting one of my .204's..let one fly and down he went...he rolled over like Barney Franks at a San Francisco cocktail party...

We ended up getting 5 total over the weekend...great time....

Way to go Ripp - to bad they weren't wolves. The .204 is a great one for coyotes, wolves, rock chucks and badgers - lots of other stuff too. A 40gr. @ 3,800fps should about do the job - perfectly.

I used the wildcat version of the .204 (Tac .20) bunch of years back, near Bozeman to take 56 out of 64 shots fired - 404yards to 440yards. Load was the early 32gr. Vmax @ 4,250fps. I'll edit to include the pic. I've posted it before, but I never get tired of looking at it. This wasn't long after a back operation - still on mega dose of morphine - it shows.- HA!

Ripp,

Awesome job!! Great shooting! Believe it or not, but I do not own a varmint rifle. I've called coyotes in to the shotgun, chased them with snowmobiles and shot them, shot them while hunting other game, and have trapped many, but I've never owned a varmint rifle for myself.

Anyway, that's beside the point.

What were the distances? What is the max. effective range of the .204 on coyotes?

Congrats on a great day!

Der Jaeger,
Thank you--usually I let them get as close as I can --or just to see how close they WILL come..I have not done a ton of this but have had them at less than 20 yards--

As to effective range of the .204--guess that depends on the shooter..personally I have not shot the .204 a ton but have taken p-dogs at 300 plus..-as Darryl shows above --it appears it still works well at 400 plus..

Great shooting Darryl--rock chucks are my favorite--they are large and in charge...The last time I shot them I was using my .243 with 70 gr Ballistic tips..loaded to 3550 or there abouts--unbelievable effect...

Thanks

Ripp
