Question regarding pinfire guns.......

Ok, I see how they work, but when I see a 12-bore double rifle in pinfire format what am I seeing? A light gun with a shorter case/load or merely a variation on the 12-bore centrefire?

Simply; same capabilities or not?

The early Lefaucheau double rifles to hit India in the late 1850's were pinfires I believe. They had short cases so were restricted in capacity. Lt. James Forsyth thought one in 14 bore would be just fine for blowing a tiger off an elephant from the Howdah.
