I also tried a .376 Steyr for a season. Loved the round. Recoil is quite manageable... but did you guys like they way it bolted backup rounds? I thought the rifle was slow and awkward. I can bolt the Ruger African twice as fast.

The SBS system seems to have a bit of a "sticky" feel to it at times. I have not decided if it is a technique thing or if its just endemic to the design with the full diameter bolt shroud.

My Pro Hunter had the little bolt handle to start with and I replaced it with the bigger round knob off of there SSG rifle. It is a available retrofit part. It worked better but still not "smooth" by any means. I had a old type S 375 that had a similar style bolt that was very slick.

I am a big Weatherby Mark V fan and use a bunch of them, all the newer Jap and USA's are very slick in operation, so I don't think it is any thing with a full diameter bolt, probably more of a manufactoring or design standpoint.

I put my bucks on the Ruger African .375 and have been very happy with it. I took it to Zimbabwe and used it for plains game with great success. It is flat shooting, accurate and hard hitting. It comes in an Alaskan model thats stainless and synthetic as well. IMHO there isnt a better value in a bolt action action for the pure hunter available. No collector gun, just a rugged hunter's tool. I used 300 grain Swift A-Frames for my hunt. It whacked wildebeast, zebra, warthog, kudu, and several impala with impressive results. I feel confident it would have done the job on buffalo had there been a problem with my .458 lott. I will be taking it back when I go next.

Could be. The full diameter bolt came to mind due to the extra contact area.

That's the first 76 I've seen in that caliber. Way overpriced, like most stuff at Cabelas, though.

Nice rifle Sharps - I agree on price- about $1,500 to $2,000 would about cover it. It is no nicer, nor better built than the delux Ruger .416 Rigby my buddy just received. In fact, the wood is just about identical. Brad's .416 has a bit more 'colour'.
