Thanks for all the help chaps.

Well, for me the trouble is very simply that $20,000 etc puts it out of the picture for me, perhaps even with planning.

To the novice will very little knowledge of these packages-what is included/involved?

Thankyou

Ben

Why not look up some outfitters on the net and read the web sites.

Join SCI and get the magazine.

Logon to the SCI Web sites around the world and use the links to various outfitters ?

This took me 12 seconds to get from Shakari's web site from time of clicking on his link under his name.

BTW - something they don't mention is, PH's won't wipe your bum for you.

Empire

Is that what you use !!!

I just couldn't believe you asked that question
when most of the information is readily available
at your fingertips from the - to start with - multiple
PH's on here that have links to the web sites.

I do sometimes wonder whether you need spoon feeding
or your just lazy.

Shakari & NitroX,

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to dig a little more on the Zambia front; the US State Dept travel advisory for it made an interesting read. Tanzania is sounding like the best bet.

Actually I have heard of one case where they did!

An elderly client who used to drink a bottle of scotch before breakfast. And more afterwards.

I think the tip at the end of the safari was the clients double rifle.

When you're considering Tanzania, you need to bear in mind that there are areas and areas. For example, the buffer zone areas around the game reserves such as the Selous, allow permanent human habitation but this is not allowed inside the Selous itself.

That means that generally speaking the game populations inside the Selous are considerably better than in the buffer zones.

When you see an ad for an area charmingly described as 'nestling against or immediatly next to' etc the Selous and it's cheaper than a hunt inside the Selous, that's the reason....... less money, sure, but also less game for the obvious reason.

Feel free to contact me at shakari3@mweb.co.za if you need further info and/or advice. - I don't believe in any of that hard sell BS and if you just want advice and nothing else, that's exactly what you'll get.

I've also just noticed a mistake on the kuduland.com site which is being corrected as I type. - Booze is included in all our safaris bar one or two. Sorry 'bout that, I've no idea how it happened!

BTW, don't you just love the watermarks on the right hand side of the pages of the kuduland.com site. - Mrs Shakari thought of that and it still puts a smile on my face every time I look at it!!

A great deal on a buff hunt with Mark DeWet! [Re: shakari]
      #131207 - 02/04/09 02:20 PM

Hi Ben:

I agree with what's been said about getting what you pay for in African safaris. On the other hand, there are some good deals to be found with highly reputable companies and PHs. If you're looking for a great cape buffalo safari for an outstanding price – and with a world-class PH – I've got a recommendation for you. In the past two years I've hunted twice with Mark DeWet in Zimbabwe and I couldn't have been happier: once in the Zambezi Valley and later in Matetsi 4. On the first hunt I shot a great buff with a 42.5" spread, and this past September I got an even better and older bull with massive bosses.

If you're interested, I posted a hunt report with Mark on this board: http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat....amp;Main=111355

I brought my wife with me on both safaris. Like many wives, she was dubious about the whole 'dangerous game hunting' business. However, she was so impressed with Mark and the safari he arranged for us that she wanted to hunt zebra on our trip the following year. (She came away with a fine stallion complete with lion scars on its haunches) Mark is an intelligent, witty, and throughly enjoyable fellow who has a solid reputation as a PH in the classic sense. He works very hard for his clients and is dedicated to 'fair chase' principles. You'll learn a lot from Mark.

I just checked his website and he has the following deal for 2009:

ZIMBABWE - ZAMBEZI VALLEY

10 Day Safari: 1 x 1 - TOTAL COST: $12 750
7 Day Safari: 1 x 1 - TOTAL COST: $10 500

INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE PRICE
• Daily rates
• Trophy and license fees - one buffalo
• Air charter - from either Harare or Victoria Falls to hunting area and return
• Dipping and packing of trophies
• Community fees
• Concession fees
• Government levy
• MARS (Medical Air Rescue Service)

NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE PRICE
• 2% Government levy as charged by shippers
• PH and camp / field staff gratuities
• Shipping of trophies to client's final destination
• Any taxidermy related costs
• Additional species (refer to current price list on his website: www.markdewetsafaris.com)
• Limited plains game depending on quota

When you consider that this is pretty much all inclusive – with a charter flight no less – it's a pretty good deal for a first class hunt. If this is the same as my hunt, you'll stay at Geoff Broomes camp near Binga. I included several photos in my hunt report so you can see what you'll encounter. If I could, I'd be going again this September!
