Sort of like how many .360's were being converted to 9.3x74's in the last few years.

I can see rechambering and/or reboring a rifle because the chambers and/or bores had issues or there was no source of finished or basic formable brass from which to start, but I have trouble getting into the shoes of the fellow who took acceptable chambers and reamed them out to accomodate a more common case when that common case could have served to form the original case. And then left the bores alone so he had a one off, wildcat rifle which needs reworked brass anyway. Easier to just rework the 405 brass to begin with, eh? Or, second choice, rechamber and rebore the rifle to shoot the 405win.

But hey, it was his rifle to do with as he pleased.

JPK

How 'bout this one?
Rechamber a 303 to 8X57?!?!

http://www.hillrodandgun.com/picture.php?id=12509

Now, nobody could ever say 303 was ever hard to find!
So, is it still .311 bore? If so, what could possibly have been the logic behind this other than if it had buggered chambers?

I'd like to see the barrel flats.

Surely it was re-bored at the time of conversion. Wonder if it was re-proofed at the time. Maybe a Paul Roberts job? If it's out of proof the price seems stiff.

I see an unwelcome screw head near the rear of the top rib. Perhaps an amateur scope mount job in the past? Also, I notice the sideplate proud of the wood.

i think this is a restock, the reason is that as curl points out the sideplate is proud of the stock and also the wood, although very beautyful, not very likely for a double rifle in the late 1890' i see the screw as well and it has nothing to do there.

if it is possible to sell rifles at those prices in the us then im missing something here, a rifle in that configuration but in good unfucked condition should would sell at around 14-18K pounds at the sales in london. and one in that condition should go for anywhere from 5-8K pounds.

im left baffeled

Is this the same gun?
If so, the phony Kynoch box is gone and they placed a .375 Magnum add in the box just to show you which ammo not to buy...
$19K is getting down there though.

BTW, I noticed Graeme Wright says the .375 2 1/2 is "consistently the easiest to regulate"

Same gun, different pricing. Was $34,900 then went to $29,900 and to $24,900 and now $19,999 if I remember correctly.

IMHO just because a gun writer says/writes something does not mean its in the bible of DR laws, my experience was different with that calibre
