My latest Wild Boar
      #127602 - 20/02/09 10:08 PM

I finally got back the mounted tusks of the big boar I shot last December during a drive hunt. It was a big and impressive animal weighting 106 kg (234 lbs.) dressed, which would indicate a live weight of 130-140 kg (290-310 lbs.).
Both tusks were broken and about to be resharpened. It's a pity but very common with big, old boars. One wonders how long the tusks were when intact.
I've laid a 9,3x74R round (the same as the one which felled the boar) alongside for comparison.

Never mind the length - width is impressive & almost parallel & that 74 just belongs there (like gin in tonic...) - very nice!

Nice job Andre!

Character in a trophy is my favorite feature. I've never been one for "scoring" and in fact favor those that show grit and fight with wear and even damage. Just as yours do. Proves he wasn't just wandering about, but rather making a mark in the world!

Very nice mount, also!

Andre, I am very impressed. Congratulations. I love the mount as well. I have a full shoulder mount for my first one. I believe I may copy your style for the next good tusker.
Thanks,

Be my guest, 88MauSporter.
This is the traditional European mount for boar tusks. However, tell your taxidermist to fill the tusks (they're hollow !) with epoxy to avoid them splitting up after a few years.

Here's another one :

Intact and longer but thinner and less massive. This boar weighted 85 kg (187 lbs.) dressed, and 110 kg (243 lbs.) live.
