423 cal woodleigh Bullets.
      #126401 - 09/02/09 03:10 PM

I have tried to get 400gn 423cal Woodleigh Weldcores from a number of sources ( Aus,Eng, Can, USA,)but nobody has been willing to send them here to New Zealand. Can anyone offer a solution to this. I have a 350gn GC bullet mould that lets me load at 2363 fps over 74gn 2208 but would like to keep the woodleigh load the gave me 2300fps over 84gn 2209.

I've a mate who has tried to get some 350grs .423s for his 10,75x68 from Dead Eye Dicks but it seems he orders so infrequently that its hardly worth the bother. Aussie bureacracy gone balmy by the sound of it. I used to get them direct but we're talking 15 years ago now.

I have the latest Woodleigh catalogue infront of me and the only 423 diameter bullets listed are as follows:-
10.75x68mm =.423
347gr RN SN
347gr FMJ
So that is probably why you havent been sent any.
They dont make them!

Also listed is the following:-
404 Jeffery = .422
400gr RN SN
400gr FMJ

Have you tried dealing direct with Woodleigh ?

Thanks 500Nitro have got email away to you.
I have had the same experience with Deadeye Dick Shinz. He ordered solids instead of softs and wont get any more in.
Alan the last boxes of 400gn have 423 cal on them but actually measure .4225. I think 423 is the generic size for the cal.
I have tried Woodleigh direct and a number of the stockists from thier web site but no joy.

The bureacracy has not gone mad. it's the same as it ever was,
one form, faxed to the Dept of Defence, wait for permit and export.

Now, now Alan, we're not going to fight over 3 grains are we? Yes it was 347s my mate was after, but unlike you I didn't have the Woodleigh catalogue in front of me so took a stab. I wasn't too far off.
My mate did write to Woodleigh, if it had been practical to get them direct he would have, as we both have in the past, I'm a bit hazy re details but I believe the cost of getting all the right stamps made it impractical, hence my interest in 500 Nitros reply.
Vongruff, thats pretty much what happened to my mate, he has the 347gr Solids, would like to get some softs, Barnes alas no longer do the 350gr TSXs either. I think he is going to try Hawk or maybe look for a bullet mold for some cheapish plinking, hopefully 416 gas checks would work. If you can come up with anything that we might be able to use, I'd be keen to know, I'm happy to do like wise.
500 Nitro, what form is it you refer to & is it practical for an individual to utilise for an order? I would like to get some 340gr 416 PPs as well. I could combine with my friend.
Steve

SHINZ. I got a mould made by David Farmer ( Hoch Moulds) It is a very high quality mould and drops a 350 gn lino bullet. I got Dave to cut the heel to take a 44 cal gas check. I wanted something that I could run fast enough to develope similar velocity - recoil for practice and playing. I have a weraloy (digger bucket repair steel) plate about 8 inches square that I shoot for fun. I have two loads, one at 1900fps over63gn 2209 and one at 2363fps over 74gn 2208. It is not hard to run through 20-30 rounds in short order. Would be happy to send some for you to try. I sent the data for the design to Dave and while the mould is excellent, it did take a very long time to arrive and came without the top punch that was payed for.

Alan MACKENZIE. Was looking at a number of sample bullets I have on the wall and the differing dia is quite interesting.
350 Woodliegh soft 351gn .422
400 Woodleigh soft 404.3gn .4225
400 Woodleigh solid 404.3gn .422
350 RWS soft 348,2gn .4235
400 RWS solid 402.2gn .421
350 Barnes 350.7gn .422
400 Barnes 400.4gn .4225
400 Barnes TS 400.7gn .421
This is a sample of one each only.

What I quoted you was direct from Woodleigh's 2009 catalogue.
