What a pecking order! Is that old, older and oldest (clockwise, starting at the top)? The one in the lower left looks to have some good war stories given the broken left horn (and priority in the mud bath).

Too bad, really, that so much emphasis is placed on width, girth, weight and myriad other dimensions of big game as a measure of "quality".
Imagine the forces required to break a Cape Buffalo's horn like that!
There is a reason the old guys live to this point in their lives - bad to the bone. They are the Generals of their kind and, to me anyway, a true representation of what it takes to survive the wilds of Africa.

I'd say the one standing is fairly young, the second is older but not past his prime and the other looks old.
There is a great double page photo spread in the current Sports Afield on buffalo at various ages which is worth getting just for that article... Would be worth scanning and posting on NE.com....
