Nigeria welcomes exiled white Zimbabwean farmers
March 25, 2004


President Olusegun Obasanjo has invited a group of white Zimbabwean farmers to settle in Nigeria after they lost their farms to Zimbabwe's controversial land reforms.

Mr Obasanjo said he hoped the exiles would encourage commercial-scale farming in Africa's most populous nation, one of the world's biggest importers of rice.

Hundreds of white Zimbabwean farmers have fled to other southern African countries since President Robert Mugabe began redistributing white-owned farms to landless blacks in 2000, and Mr Obasanjo said they had had a positive impact on those economies.

"We don't want to take what is good for Zimbabwe away, but we don't want what is good for Africa to be taken away," he said in a statement.

The head of the 15-strong delegation, Alan Jack, said the Zimbabwean Government had destroyed their farms.

"We had to look for other parts of Africa where we can farm with government support, and luckily the Nigerian Government has pledged to support us," he said.

Mr Jack, who is also a member of the Commercial Farmers' Union of Zimbabwe, said the immigrants had chosen Kwara state in western Nigeria and Nasawara in the east to acquire land for rice and sugar farming.

Once southern Africa's bread basket, Zimbabwe now relies on aid to feed millions.

Nigeria had great potential for commercial agriculture, Mr Jack said, but lacked infrastructure and finance.

I remember back in the late 70's when Zambia offered deposed White Farmers their farms back that had been confiscated in the early 60's. By then most had moved on and were not interested. Zambia still has not recovered from that and it's been 40 years.

Yeah, why not? Develop them there farms, and then confiscate them, again.

Yep, let the White farmers develop the land and let the Black would-be farmers fuck it up when they take over the properties.

the cynic in me says the same thing. Mozambique, Zambia, Nigeria etc all want some nice white farms developed free of charge so they can confiscate them in the future. Why should Mugabe's monkeys get all the loot.

And then fuck them up again anyway.

Hi,
I don't know much about hunting in Zimbabwe....but I sure wouldn't mind a buffalo culling permit in Kenya!
I have read a lot about tax benefits/cheap land for those who will invest in Mozambique (sounds strangely like desperation). For someone with a little capital and large kojones it can always bring rich rewards IF you get out in time.
By the way, if someone were to buy a farm/ranch in Zimbabwe under the guise of a foreign owned corporation, would it be safe??

As long as Mugabe is alive, no white man is safe in Zimbabwe. He simply HATES all whites and gets away with murder.

Don't even consider Zim as a place for investment or land holdings.IMHO

You don't have to be white for that ass-hole to hate you. All you have to be is be from another tribe. He hates Asians, all Whites that don't kiss his ass, all non-Blacks, and all non-members of his tribe. As stated before, Monkeyman and his posse need to be eradicated like the disease that they are.

I'm surprised that someone from within his own circle hasn't done the deed.

I understand that he has advance stages of syphilis...so say those I know in Zim.

It IS well known that he does in fact hate all whites, everywhere. He sure cozied up to North Korea, also.
