Some of the other sites i belong to we have been posting about lick sticks over rubs and scrapes.Some think its not important but i have always found a good scrape with lick stick always seems to put me into the active area......Is it the same in africa and aussy land....do they use licks sticks and do the bucks in rut even scrape

Redbeard,

I don't have a clue what a lick stick is in the first place but if I understand your message correctly, according to the picture,it must be some special stick or scent that you use to attract the game.I have never seen or heard that any one here in South-Africa use this kind of "appliances" to hunt.Here we do it the good old walk and stalk style.Maybe there is such products here on the market but not that I know of.
The only thing I know of is what they call here a "critter call".It is type of a wistle thing that they use to call jackal and caracal(small lynx).
Tell me more about this stuff you guys use there.It sounds very interesting.

I know "salt blocks" can be used to bring in game, but have never used them. They are sometimes provided to domestic stock for the minerals they impart.

Also did you take the photo of this eight pointer (or do you call it a 4 pointer)?
Did it end up in the freezer?

We call them lick branches and lick sticks all the same .They the white tail leave scent from glands in foreheads and ears on the branches......

here we have the salt blocks you talk of but they are mainly used for cattle.Game farmers however do put them out for game but not to lure them but for minerals and phosphates.
