I guess if the hunter is trying to kill bears at 500 yards, then probably not. Any hunter who says a .375H&H is not an adequate caliber for our largest bears is more at fault as a shooter than the cartridge is at being capable.

A .375H&H shooting 300 grain Barnes or Nosler Partitions is Bad Medicine for any of our bears.

I think that, because the proper distance, with the tip properly and putting the shot, if the 375 H & M is able to bring down buffalo, elephants and hippos also be able to bring down bears with ownership.

The .338 Win Mag is a GREAT grizzly ctg. - the .375 H&H in my humble opinion is even better. Anything larger is just something to cause flinching and poor hits. Many people have trouble shooting anything larger than a .338 or .375 - some even have trouble with them. NEVER over-gun yourself. A pefect hit with a premium bullet from a .300 is preferred to a poor hit with anything larger.

I personally like .458 calibres - .45/70 or .450 Marlin lever gun is among the best for fist-fighting ranges. Big bears - again, in my opinion, should never to attempted beyond about 100 yards - 50 yards is even better. Getting on their terms, face to face makes the hunt worth while. Trying to snipe a bear at 200 or 250 yards to prove you're a man because you're afraid of them will only result in a poor hit and a stern & perhaps dangerous chase for the guide. I won't allow it.

Hit them properly with a 286 Speer or 270gr. to 300gr. Nosler or TSX at 50 to 100 yards and the hunt is over.

Whoever says that, IMHO, really doesn't know what they are saying..proof is below--taken a few years back on the AP in Alaska..compliments of a .375 H&H ..the .375 H&H is awesome for the "big" bears..

I think so! We shot in Siberia and Kamchatka a lot of big bears with 9,3x64 without problems!

Ripp, are you sure those little .375's penetrated the hide?? I'm sure you had to empty the magazine on him! Haha

Great shooting and what a great looking bear. I might even be tempted to grab the .416 out of the rack but, the .375 is more than plenty....especially if the bear has thoughts other than passing into the netherworld peacefully.

Your a funny one...

Just to set the record straight, I have NO problem with a .375 or any of its offspring..I just like the .416 more on dangerous game..BUT, to answer your question--2 shots...

Take care

Two shots is pretty good and the least amount that a careful hunter would place into animal that looks to the hunter as food. My Mauser M03 in .375H&H will always have a permanent spot in my armament

The 375 H&H is a great caliber and as I stated is awesome for, IMHO, for bears or any hunting in AK..as you never know what you'll come across such as moose, caribou, or whatever...own 2 myself..and will probably own 3 as I plan to build one in the 375 Ruger for my son...but with Ruger/Hornady coming out with the .416 Ruger as well, will probably get one of those as well..

Thanks

Ripp

Lets not forget that MANY HUGE beasts have been successfully taken with the 375, it's all about bullet placement though.

Thanks for your answers, based on experience, surely that page was wrong to carry out its assessment of the venerable British cartridge.

That is why you have a friend, but it seems that people are not well considered. Of course I am aware that the 375 H & M is not the most suitable for as large, at least in complicated situations, but in normal situations and the shooter doing his part (to place the draft) has fulfilled to perfection.

Hey Ripp,

I needed some funds for some other gun projects, with it being the "Least" important in the battery it got sacrificed. I liked it alot. Probably the nicest 375 I have owned. Problem is I have had use of a 1990's built WR and a Dakota 76, years back, and they have really swayed my thinking.

All that said I still want a Dakota. I bought this Kimber as a affordable alternative and that it is.....but in the end it was not the "feel" I really wanted. I finally had a chance to handle a Dakota 76 and a Caprivi together, over Memorial day at Cabel'as in Rapid, and from that day on I knew the Caprivi would/could be a short timer.

Will I have to change my username to Dakota????????????

That was my feeling as well when I looked at them at SCI last year..pretty nice gun..but the old Dakota's have that 'certain" feel to them for sure...felt the Kimber was a bit bulky in the front end of the stock for my taste--actually I like the twin synthetic model a bit better plus it would be a great gun for Alaska as well
