We've just completed the Safari Club Show in Dallas and SCI in Reno, and we sold more double rifles this year at those two shows than we did last year. I assume others did as well. I was a little surprised at the popularity of the 500 NE, but it seemed to be the most requested caliber this year.

The bolt-gun guys seemed to be singing the blues, but I've not heard of any fatalities yet.

Most of the Dangerous Game PHs I talked to were having surprisingly strong years (one indicated that it was his best ever.) I would suspect the Plains Game guys weren't doing as well.

I would guess attendance was down about 20% at both, but the ones that were there seemed to be buying.

Again, it goes to show that one man's down economy is another man's boon. It doesn't matter if it's a buyers market or a sellers market. As long as there are some of each, commerce keeps moving along; the winners and losers just temporarily trade places.

I'm glad to hear that business was good for double rifles and for dangerous game safaris.

They are buying the .500 because they believe Obama will ban the .50 cal.

Shares are down, gold is up and too much pump-priming may lead to hyper-inflation.

In a situation like this I can think of worse places to put your money than a double rifle. Unlike gold the value of a s/h db rifle can be expected to increase steadily over the years.

The safari that follows the purchase may be the rub, but it's a great way to keep Africa's economy going - and we're all in this together.
