Go to www.mountainmolds.com and use his on-line design program to create just what you want. I had him cut one for my 470. They are top quality molds and very reasonably priced.

TedH,

Great tip! I just checked the website, and it looks like one I will do business with.

Thanks,

Spend considerable time on that site, play with the numbers and features.

I've seen bullets thrown from moulds commissioned through that site (I can see the algorithm of his program all over the 'boolit' community), and via no fault of the business, most of them aren't what I'd want to stuff down the bores of anything I own.

He has limits in his design software to account for the shape of his tooling. Although perfectly functional bullet moulds can be designed there, you might have to screw with the parameters a bit to get just what you want.

Have fun with it!

Cheers

A word to the wise concerning what dimensions you order, get some cerrosafe and make a couple chamber casts to get your throat and bore dimensions exact. Other wise you may end up with a cast bullet of less than perfect size for your particular rifle, or worse yet a bullet that won't chamber.

Ted-

That's why the Good Lord gave us the bullet sizing die!
I prefer a mould that throws a bullet somewhat oversize, in that no matter what alloy is used, they can all be put through a simple die for a slight swage to exact size.

I'm talking just a very few thou here.
Also, when designing a mould, especially via M.M. software (again, the software can be a little tricky), make sure there's ample grease groove depth, with room for the driving bands to upset into plus a margin, and to accommodate enough bullet lube to do the job.

Here's an extreme example of what can happen when 'any old body' is allowed to design their own mould, cast their own bullets, and load for their own rifle...

Seen recently at a local auction house, high quality 20b Brit sporting rifle, raped.

I'll start with the bullet.

That's grams. Do the math..!

Now, this is a piece of brass found with the rifle.

That base was spool-shaped. Hourglass-shaped. Stretched. The belly bulged.

Nice rifle too, snap-action Lever-Under-Guard rotary.
Here's the action flat detail...

The only portion of the barrel-set to have seen recent polish was the flats, I wonder if they were trying to hide something..?

Grossly over-weight bullet, no effective grease groove to speak of, over size, and too hard...

True, but the software will allow you to make a bullet with a nose the same diameter as the body for example. A bullet cast as such will not chamber. It is best to know the dimensions you are trying to fit a bullet to. Cast bullets perform best when they are subjected to as little sizing as possible also.

Ted-

I agree to an extent on the bullet sizing comment, but with the 30 to 40 moulds I have here, the only bullets that I don't routinely put through a lubricator/sizer are roundball.
Everything else sees the lubrisizer before it sees brass.

Great point on knowing your rifle -- it's amazing to see what folks will attempt to stuff down the bores of their rifles.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think that software would allow someone to design a 'heeled' bullet mould, where the base and body (as in gas-check design) is smaller in diameter than the nose.

Ted - I have a bullet swage I made, that reduces .376" cast bullets of 250gr. and .306gr., down to .367" for my 9.3x57. They shoot 1/2" larger groups at 100 meters, than the same rifle with jacketed bullets. I am happy. Obviously, sizing a bullet a lot, depends on more than mere thousanths of reduction. .009" in this case. Too, I've run .459" bullets through a .452" die and shot them in my .45 Colt chamberd rifle - that rifle held sub 2" groups at 100 meters with both jacketed and cast. .007" in that case. What this all means is that the way bullets are aligned and sized has more to do with their after accuracy, than how much they are sized.
The only 'secret' for such over-sizing is to lubricate the bullet first.
