I purchased a set of 12 gauge blanks from Hastings. They are very reasonable.

Badger Barrels Inc in Bristol, Wisconsin USA

click here for Badger Barrels Inc

Got a pair of these in 12 bore about 6 or 8 months ago. Nice barrels. The two I received were very well finished inside.

Price was very reasonable too!

Hope this helps.

Alex,

Good evening or morning to you down under.

First I want to say thank you for the "Make mine a double" article you did I found it while researching building doubles and it is very inspiring to say the least. I am relatively to the forums and have a few questions. I have read Ellis Brown's book many times over and your article. I have also been communicating on Jeffe post on the 45/120 Huglu build. and will build my first double on my DeHaan double later this year. On your furnace that you heated the shoe lump barrels so well. I was thinking that I could use my small forge that I use for knife making to do something similar but on a monoblock barrel joining? My question is not quite in the line with this thread so I apologize for stepping in a different direction. On a first build I am looking at doing a mono block out of 4140, I looked at your mono block and it looked like it was completely machined from the same piece of steel, and have looked Ellis's way of building a mono block. I have basic machining skills, lots of motivation and patience, plan on practicing on aluminum first then moving to steel when I get the process and skills in place. Would you recommend machining the block and lumps from the same piece of steel? Or making the block and lumps separate then silver solder together?

Again sorry if I asked the question in the wrong manner.

Have a good day.

Dave

Badger barrels seem now to be the preferred barrels for BP ctg. shooting. Their prices are in line with the other best-made barrels.

Alex,
I have just this minute finished reading your article entitled "Make Mine A Double". Simply fabulous article. You've been far too modest, old boy! You should have let us know of the existence of this article, long ago. Many thanks to AZDave for having done so.

RSFknives,
I just ordered a pair of rifled 20 gauge barrels from Badger Barrels over the phone. His wife is the one who actually took the order information and they were both very polite and helpful. For both barrels and the shipping they charged me $268.00. I feel that is a very good deal in this day and age for two barrels, shipped. I asked him if he had been selling alot of rifled shotgun blanks and he told me that most people just called to get information but most don't order anything. This guy makes a quality product, I have used them before. If you need quality barrels at a good price, I suggest you call them. Bob H.

$268 is an excellent price - blanks I assume - or controured?

AZDAVE, PM sent

ronvella,

Quote “You should have let us know of the existence of this article, long ago”.

Sorry about that, I’d actually forgotten about it until I saw Dave’s post.

Thank you for your kind words. That was the first article I ever wrote, more nerve wracking than building a double believe it or not

If you think it would help, and if I can work out how, I’ll see if I can post it in the “Building Double Rifles” section

Regards,

Alex

Daryl,
They were ordered as 1 1/4 inch diameter blanks, that way I know they will be big enough to use as sleeve barrels when I turn them. It is a pain to have to take off all that extra metal, but it is the only way I know of to get what I need for sleeving barrels. Bob
