      #119683 - 28/11/08 09:49 PM

I would like to finish some socks.
I have used True Oil and love it but I cannot get it here anymore.
Also I love to work the old way so I would like to know the old English formulas.
I have read about using line seed oil and some filler/abrasive.
Any advise would helps.
Thanks
Martin

Can you get low glossTung Oil finish? It works as well as Tru-Oil and doesn't shine as much

No,
I can only get the "Stock hinner & Conditioner" and wax from Birchwood here.
I have used TrueOil some years ago but I can geti t no more.
Im afraid it would be a problem to order because all the new restrictions.
Thats why I was looking for some formula or a "homemade Trueoil"
Thanks
Martin

Wow, I don't know what to think about this. I don't know what kind of oils you can get there. Sherwin Williams used to make a "Plastic Oil" that was simply called "A66F90" which was a very good finish but again, I don't know if you can get it there.

How about ordering from Brownells? Or is that not possible either?
Steve

Steve,
Thanks for the advises.
Im concern about shipping TrueOil to Argentina as it have solvents.
I plan to order from USA but I have to wait some time as shippng arround Xmas and new year is terrible in Argentina. It tooks twice or more to travel. Some years ago some DVD on was sent from USA on January. As have not arrived by June, they was sent again. First shipping arrived one day later and the other 8 days latter........
I have found an old formula, I will try it ans post my results.
Thanks
Martin

Beleg2,
Check around your area and find a good furnature maker and ask them what they use for a finish. It will surely be available locally. Then after using their finish, rub it out with fine steel wool and put on a coat of furnature wax to protect it and help keep it from warping. I would also wax inside the barrel channel and under the butt plate. Anywhere water can get into it. Good luck with you projects. Bob H.

I've used sanding sealer and boiled linseed oil on stocks with good results.
Rub it in then sand with very fine steel wool.
Comes out with a oiled satin finnish.
Good luck
Al
