Hello All,

Anybody know where in the U.S. I can lay my hands on a Remington Baikal double rifle in 45/70? Hopefully at a "reasonable" price. would considered "lightly used" if from reputable person.

Thanks alot....Best Regards

Considering they just hit the market a very short time ago, 'lightly used' might be the only way you'd find one. There even aren't available in Canada yet. I've been told 2 to 5 years before they will be.

Daryl

They have now turned up here in Australia in small quantities
so they are getting out of the Baikal factory.

Suggest you check out AR, a couple of people have been listing them for sale on there.

Daryl,

Just handled one in 30/06 at a gun show in Sask today...so they are available in Canada
It was 'lightly' used and/or gunsmithed if you know what I mean
(buggered screws, dinged stock, bent mount)...

I've seen several each time I look up 'double rifle' at
http://www.gunbroker.com/
They seem to be around $900-1000.

I was referring to the fellow wanting a .45/70. The .30/06's are here - I've also handled one - looks and handles pretty good to me for $950.00. The shop owner said the .45/70's may take as much as 5 years to arrive, BUT - I don't put a lot of faith in his predictions. Sometimes he's right, though.

The action is virtually identical to the shotgun and barrels appear to perhaps with a bit of fitting, be interchangable, BUT - there may be heat-treatment changes to the shotgun action to make it take an '06's pressure.

Try Randy's gun in Niles Michigan 616-695-6343

He was at the Gibralter Trade center gun show this week end. Had the 45-70 double and was about $900.

Ordered one from Lolo Sporting Goods, Lewiston, ID. Picked it up 11-20-08, haven't had time to do much with it. They said it came out of NC, had about 20 at time of order. Workmanship not bad, barrels are thin walled, O.D. about.125 over I.D.
I'm trying Millet rings but not sure if the rings I have are 22 or Bruno dovetail.

Sparky - they may still be heavier walled than the rifle barrels on most drillings.

Dewey's Gun and Pawn in Greenville, SC had one several weeks ago. Don't know if it's still there (I doubt it) or if maybe they got more in. Worth a try. Their number is (864)672-3641. I handled it and was not impressed. The main issue was I couldn't get it to open all the way. I know it's only a $900 gun but it has to open. The 45/70 doesn't really get me excited either. Needless to say I passed and got a Ruger #1 in 458 Win Mag instead.
